Passing the LOTE Spanish EC-12 exam will make you eligible for Spanish teaching positions in Texas.  It will not make you eligible for bilingual teaching jobs.

I passed the LOTE Spanish exam in February of 2012.  I am not a native or heritage speaker, but I did earn a master's degree in Spanish and put a lot of effort into learning the language.

Before taking the LOTE, I studied foreign language pedagogy.  Pedagogy counts for more than 30% of the exam, so it is important to learn it.

In addition, I listened to the radio, watched TV, read, and spoke in Spanish as much as possible.

If you are not sure where to put accent marks or spell properly, you definitely need to work on that.  There are free resources online to help you learn where to put accent marks. 

What Does the LOTE Spanish Exam Cover?

As previously mentioned, over 30% of the exam assesses your knowledge of pedagogy.  There are also sections on listening and reading comprehension, as well as writing and oral proficiency.  You will be required to write in the target language (Spanish) and in English.  You will be required to write a lesson plan and essay in English, and three other writing tasks are in Spanish.  Be sure to carefully review the preparation manual and supplemental guide available at the ETS website.
